VIDE Chemotherapy at JR

What is it ?

Chemotherapy is when the doctors fill my body with lots of strong chemicals that track down my tumor and kill it. I have to be 'plugged in' to their machines for 3 days, with the medicines going into my body ALL the time ! (boo!)

John Radcliffe
Because these medicines are very strong they make me feel very sick and ill when they're going in, and the do tend to make me feel very sick for a few days afterwards. Not only does it kill all the bad things in my body, but it also kills all the good things. Things like my blood. Blood is really important for me to live and move around, so if this isn't working properly then I don't work properly. Blood also is really important to fight infections and to be healthy, so when I've finished my course, my body is unable to fight off illness. So, I'm supposed to stay at home and 'chill' until the next course starts..... boo !!!

These strong medicines also made my hair all fall out - which is really unfair. Apparently though it will grow back just as beautiful as before. Tough luck on daddy as his hair will never grow back - ha ha !! :-)

The doctors say that I have to have 6 'courses' of chemo - which means that I've got to come here 6 times to have this treatment done. If you notice on my chart above, it says how many 'courses' I've completed.

VIDE stands for the drugs that I'm having to take - V = Vincristine, I=Ifosfamide, D=Doxorubcin, E=Etoposide

I don't like chemo - its really nasty - but everybody tells me that without it, I'd be very very ill and in a lot of pain, so 'oh well'.

Love M.
